Christmas and New Year opening times 2010

There’s plenty going on in the area over Christmas and the New Year and also some well deserved breaks for some shops and businesses after Christmas.

Retro will be closed on Christmas Eve and open again on the 27th till the 31st with a New Year’s evening celebration menu (£55). Scarpetta will be closed Christmas and Boxing Days (last orders at 8pm on Christmas/New Year’s Eve), also on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of January. Fans of Indian food will be glad to know that Prem, Bombay Spice and Bilas Tandoori will re-open on Boxing Day.

Restaurants Red Peppers and Bar Estillo are both holding New Year fancy dress parties with their special evening meal menu. The Teddington Arms and The Bloated Mallard will also be packed out with revellers in fancy dress with a Bugsy Malone and Superheroes and Villains theme respectively.

Brasserie Gerard will be one of the few venues opening on Christmas Day itself – 5 courses for £49.95 and will be hosting a New Year’s Eve for £44.95. They will be open every day through Christmas and New Year but closing early on Christmas Eve at 6pm and New Years Day at 8pm. The Clock House will be serving dinner on Christmas Day – three courses for £35.95 and four for £39.95. The Park Hotel is offering a six course feast on Christmas Day for £59.95 (children £29.95) and a New Years celebration bar admission and disco for £20.

You can also enjoy a four-course set meal at a New Years evening at The Kings Head for £45 and a 7 course feast at Dolce Vita for £34.95.

For any camera mishaps or repairs from wearing out your camera with festive pictures, Teddington Photographic will be closed from the 25th to the 28th of December, also on the 1st-3rd January (closed at 3pm on New Years Eve, normal trading from the 4th). Happy Potter Ceramics will also be closed in between Christmas and New Year.

To avoid any panicking about last-minute cooking materials and supplies, Kitchen Sync is open every day now (5:30pm) until Christmas Eve where it will be shutting at 3:30pm so don’t leave it too late to buy a large enough baking tray for your turkey! After Christmas, Kitchen Sync will re-open on Wednesday 29th.

If you’re still stuck for presents don’t forget to try your local high street first – perhaps the travel problems are a mixed blessing and might help residents realise what great shops we have here right on our doorsteps. You can order Christmas food or a special Christmas hamper from Elli’s delicatessen and pick it up, up to 4pm on Christmas Eve. Food stuffs include mince pies, Christmas cup cakes, cranberry sauce, pates, terrines, Boxing Day chutneys, Goose fat, brandy sauce, Christmas biscuits etc – it might be worth while ordering the essentials just so you don’t have to battle the usual crowds at the supermarkets!

Speaking of which, Tesco is closed on Christmas and Boxing Day with revised opening times either side (shuts at 7pm on Christmas Eve) and similarly with Marks and Spencer – closed both days too and shutting at 5pm on Friday.

If you are planning in advance your recovery from New Year’s celebrations, note that the Diner’s Delight and Nearest Cafe will not be open on the 1st of January 2011. In addition, coffee-addicts should note that Astrora Coffee will be closed from the 25th of December until the 3rd of January so buy your beans before Christmas and make use of their handy heat-sealed bags!
