High street update
A new cafe is opening this week by the river and is sure to be a hit with those visiting and passing through the area: Flying Cloud Cafe.
It will be serving a range of hot and cold drinks, cakes and ice-creams – all from a customised shiny Flying Cloud Airstream caravan. Customers can relax in the old boatyard area beside the Lock.
It has been a while since any pubs in central Teddington had a pool table but there are now two! Check out The Queen Dowager and Sammy’s Bar Restaurant if you fancy a game.
Flags have started going up outside businesses on the high street in preparation for the impending Royal Wedding – these will all be in place by Tuesday Wednesday. The flags themselves are paid for by individual businesses in a coordinated move by the Teddington Business Community.
Speaking of celebrations, Sweatshop are again uncorking champagne after winning the Runners World Best Retailer award for the fifth year in a row! Mackenzie Gallery has just seen it its 5 year anniversary on the high street with a celebratory gathering and drink between all involved in keeping the business on the high street.
Mela Mela also saw in their three year anniversary this Saturday with and an invitation to regular customers to dress vintage on the day and enjoy a glass of bubbly in the shop.
As It Is has carried a line of ladies fashion for some time alongside its other wares but the success of this range has prompted owner Sarah Simmonds to expand this and concentrate more on this side of the business.
Recently refurbished, opened up and re-launched, the shop is firmly focussed on women’s wear now but still stocks items such as jewellery.
On The Causeway, revised plans for an existing office block to be demolished and rebuilt have been given the go-ahead. The new four-storey building will contain a mixture of offices and private flats.
Interesting news regarding The Causeway – one of Teddington’s less architecturally distinguished corners?
The old Bottoms Up building next door to no. 22 is mostly empty and deteriorating – I’ve shown an interest in the retail space in the past, but to no avail.
The Causeway will never be prime retail, but is a great location for niche businesses. It’s a pity that it’s so under-used at the moment.
