Cricket fans taking a stroll in Bushy Park on Tuesday might have been surprised to find Sri Lankan cricket star Muttiah Muralitharan on the green at Teddington Cricket Club.
Teddington CC haven’t upset the cricketing world by bagging the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket and in One Day Internationals, Muttiah was actually filming for a phone company TV commercial and seemed to enjoy his time amongst the green scenery of the park.
Teddington regularly play matches in the park and all are welcome to relax and enjoy watching the game with a drink from the clubhouse bar. Last Sunday they narrowly saw off Ealing by just 3 runs in a nail-biting game as spectators enjoyed an afternoon in the sun.
This Sunday the 1st XI play defending champions Lordswood in the CCC Cup, a cup for all clubs in the South East. On 4th July they will be hosting their Colonial Day, when they will play Sydney University, back to back winners of Sydney’s Grade 1 cricket title, and at which spectators are welcome to join in for lunch and wine in the marquee. The 1st XI are also at home in Middlesex League action against Hampstead on 7th July.
