Charity Update

NewsA Teddington resident has recently been on quite an adventure, sparked from a hypothetical comment at a cafe: could you rent a Boris Bike, ride it up Mont Ventoux in South France and get back within 24 hours to avoid the fine!

The epic journey was to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support – a cause close to Rob’s heart after his dad was recently diagnosed with cancer. Although the fund-raising target has already been smashed, any money donated will still go towards supporting cancer support in the UK.

Charity SOS is an annual project to give something back to unsung heroes who work for charities in the UK. Each year they manage a project to completely redesign and fit out a charitable organisation’s office for free in one day using a volunteer team, donated materials, furnishings and office equipment.

This year they chose the Down Syndrome Association’s offices in Teddington and as well now looking smart and modern, the office is now more energy-efficient, uncluttered and fitted with new storage and equipment that will help in the daily running and organisation of the charity.

A 2014 Pioneering Women calendar features women who work in male dominated jobs, includes Lindsay Chapman (bottom-left) who is a senior research scientist at the NPL, leading the Thermal Performance Technical Area of the Materials Division. Purchases of the calendar include a £5 donation to Oxfam.

The Anglers and FARA have teamed up to create this wonderful book corner in the pub so customers can have a pint and read a book or two whilst supporting the charity!

A Christmas thank you from Teddington-based charity Beating Bowel Cancer to all their supporters.
