Doors closing on Alan Hopgood’s time at Teddington station

Buying a ticket at Teddington station won’t be the same again as Alan Hopwood, who’s career on the railways started in 1976, is retiring. Alan, who has served Teddington commuters for over 30 years, has been dubbed ‘Mr Teddington’ and has been recognised in the rail community and by locals for his excellent service to the community.

Back in 2010 Alan was awarded an MBE for services to public transport. Alan said: “I enjoy working at Teddington station. It is an ideal size station where I can meet with 30 to 40 “friends” every day and work with fantastic colleagues. Being honoured with an MBE is a real privilege. I am delighted to be given this honour and will continue to try my best to be helpful to our customers.”

Rail passengers and locals alike have relied on Alan’s knowledge of the local area and his route and ticketing knowledge to help them about their day, whilst still being a friendly and welcoming face to many who arrive by train.

Thanks for your service Alan!

Alan will be having leaving drinks on March 28th 2016 at The Adelaide in Park Road from 7pm if you’d like to join him and wish him well.
