South West London Fraud Partnership target fraudulent parking badges

Officers from the South West London Fraud Partnership carried out a targeted exercise to identify if any drivers were fraudulently using parking permits.

Rampall Raj of Rosemary Avenue in Hounslow was caught and pleaded guilty at South Western Magistrates Court accused of illegally using his mother’s Blue Badge for free parking in Hampton Wick.

Raj was fined and ordered to pay court costs totalling £933 after being caught using his mother’s badge to unlawfully park in Glamorgan Road, Hampton Wick, following a tip off from a member of the public.

Cllr Geoffrey Samuel, Richmond Council’s Deputy Leader, said:

“We will not tolerate cheats, and will make every effort to ensure that they are prosecuted for their fraud. It doesn’t matter if you are not from this borough. Using a Blue Badge, that does not belong to you, denies a vulnerable person a parking space. Think before you fraudulently use a Blue Badge. We will find out. We will prosecute.”

If you are aware of someone committing Blue Badge Fraud, please help the council to bring them to justice by contacting the confidential whistle blowing hotline on 0800 3899795, the fraud hotline 020 8891 7839 or report the fraud on-line by going to: www.richmond.gov.uk/preventing_fraud
