Triumphant effort from Team Richmond in London Youth Games events

Youngsters from across the borough took part in tennis and trampolining competitions this weekend, hoping to bring home medals in both sports.

Competing at the final qualifiers at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, the local tennis squad was made up of players from five different clubs within the borough. The Richmond Team got off to a perfect start, winning 4-1 in their first match against Hillingdon.

However, it wasn’t to be. Despite their best efforts, Richmond were pipped to the post by the Wandsworth team. This means that unfortunately the Team won’t qualify for the Finals and finish in joint 7th place in the overall Tournament.

Over in Harrow Leisure Centre, a small Team Richmond squad were hoping to improve on their 2016 performances which saw them finish in 9thposition.

A string of fantastic individual performance combined to give Team Richmond a total of 214.4. This propelled the Team onto the podium to collect Silver medals.

Cllr Lisa Blakemore, Mayor of Richmond upon Thames, said:

“What a fantastic effort!  Our children and young people are so talented at all kinds of sport and it’s wonderful to see how high the standard is at tennis and trampolining here in Richmond.

“As we move into the summer months and have even more sporting events leading up to the London Youth Games, I’m sure – Richmond’s winning mentality will do the borough proud.”
