Exclusive: BUDGENS IN TEDDINGTON’S HIGH STREET WILL CLOSE NEXT WEEK AFTER 20 YEARS

The convenience store Budgens in Teddington’s High Street, which has been a feature of the town for 20 years, will close at 11pm next Wednesday, Teddington Town exclusively confirmed today.
Unofficially, staff sources cited high rates and rent and a ‘Closing Down’ sale has appeared on the front automatic doors of the store as well as a detailed notice about the reasons for the shock and sudden closure.
The type-written note says:
Dear Valued Customer,
“I hope this message finds you well. As we approach a significant milestone, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering loyalty and support over the past 20 years at Budgens, Teddington.
“Your patronage has been the cornerstone of our success and it has been a true pleasure serving you.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that Budgens, Teddington will cease trading on April 30th 2025.
“This decision has not come lightly and is due to a combination of of factors, including increasing operational costs, changes in consumer shopping habits and the ongoing challenges within the retail sector.
“I want to assure you that this decision was made after careful consideration and it reflects our commitment to providing the best for our customers. We will continue to serve you with the same dedication and quality until our final day of trading.

The note concluded with ‘Warm Regards, Joe, Retailer, Budgens Teddington.’

The convenience store has proved to be a lifeline for many in the Teddington community providing essentials like milk and bread as well as alcohol, newspapers and magazines and frozen goods because of its opening hours from 6.30am until 11pm every day.
Today, staff at the store remained tight-lipped abut the closure but admitted they were unsure what the future held for the prestigious and large site – the latest casualty in a series of closures of retailers in Teddington’s High Street and Broad Street.
