Teddington’s Collis Primary School in Fairfax Road has been rated Outstanding in all areas in its latest OFSTED inspection, it was revealed today (Tuesday)

The judgement recognises the exceptional education provided at Collis, underpinned by strong leadership and an ambitious, well-sequenced and broad curriculum.

Inspectors praised the happy pupils and their love of learning, their exemplary behaviour, high attendance, and the safe, supportive setting in which they thrive. They added that children are happy and achieve highly across the curriculum.

Parental support for the school was off the scale, with 482 responses completed on the Ofsted Parent View form. This represents every family of the 700 pupils that attend the school.

One parent said: “I can’t praise the staff highly enough.”

While another commented: “As a parent, I couldn’t be happier. Collis builds a sense of community and provides an incredibly grounded education.”

Other highlights on the parent survey include:

  • 99% of families recommend the school
  • 100% of families say their child is happy at this school
  • 99% say their child feels safe at this school

Delighted Head Teacher Kevin Hogston said: “We have waited a long time to be inspected, and this Outstanding Ofsted report reflects the incredible hard work of our staff, their high expectations and ambition for every child, and the high impact teaching happening in classrooms every day.

“The strength of our curriculum and research-driven staff development has enabled all staff to be at their best. Collis is a true community, a big family and this success belongs to everyone who plays a part in it. We are excited to continue our exceptional standards into the future. Without doubt, Collis is the place to be.”

The report is now available to read on the school website:

In addition to the above, inspectors highlighted the new school building, excellent resources, extensive facilities and the impressive grounds.

Collis School is situated on a very large site (31,000 sq. m) in Teddington, which includes its own swimming pool, astro turf sports zone, nature area, a huge playing field, well-being room, meditation room, music and art rooms, and nursery and reception classrooms with dedicated outdoor Early Years learning environments.

Reading was recognised as a strength in the inspection, starting in Nursery through to Year 6, supported by two wonderful libraries.

Results and pupil outcomes are particularly high at the Richmond upon Thames school with the school results in 2024 above both national and Richmond averages. Early Years has wonderful provision and a large, all-year-round nursery. The school is strong both academically and in supporting pupils’ social and well-being needs.

Collis School still has a few Nursery places available for September 2025 admission. Interested applicants should email admissions@collis.richmond.sch.uk.

Collis School (then Park Road Girls’ School) was founded in 1865 by Sarah Collis in a house in Park Road, Teddington.  Initially, there were just 16 pupils, but this had risen to 71 by the end of the year.  Boys were first admitted in 1871 and by 1875, there were 318 pupils attending.

Collis School moved to its present location on Fairfax Road in 1972 and the old school building was completed in 1982 with a new nursery department. In September 2015 Kevin Hogston became the new Head Teacher. In 2020 Collis had a £6 million building development.
