Thamesa, one of the famous Little Ships moored near Teddington footbridge

Teddington Lock reopened fully today (wed) following urgent maintenance work which threatened possible disruption to the 85th anniversary flotilla, it emerged today.

Over 70 Dunkirk ‘Little Ships’ are due to make their way to gather at Ramsgate next week – many of them through Teddington Lock in the next few days.

Five of the heroic Little Ships, Thamesa, White Marlin, Gentle Ladye, Papillon and Fedelma 11 are berthed at Teddington marina after being made ready for the big trip.

Several of the ships are waiting upstream until the Lock is fully operational and can allow them safely through.

An Environment Agency spokesperson told Teddington Town: “We are carrying out minor repair work at Teddington Lock to improve safety for our staff.

“The lock is closed while the maintenance takes place, but we hope to re-open it between 9am and 5pm as soon as possible.

“We are working to get the lock back in operation 24 hours a day as soon as possible.”
