TEDDINGTON STUDENTS ROW THE LENGTH OF THE THAMES FOR CHARITY

Students at Teddington School have raised over £2000 for the Vineyard Community and Richmond Foodbank by rowing more than the entire length of the River Thames….. without leaving the school’s grounds.

Using rowing machines in just one school day on a scorching day and rowing in shifts they completed 386kms (239 miles) which is 40KMS MORE than the length of the river.

A spokesperson said: “We’re rowing for a reason: to raise vital funds for Vineyard Community and Richmond Foodbank, who provide emergency food and essential support to individuals and families facing hardship in our local area.

“Every metre rowed and every pound raised will help those struggling with food insecurity — right here in our community.

“This challenge isn’t just about rowing — it’s about rowing for a reason. All funds raised will go directly to Vineyard Community & Richmond Foodbank, helping families and individuals across our area who are facing hardship and food insecurity.

“Every pound you donate will support people living in crisis — providing emergency food parcels, essential supplies, and a lifeline to those who need it most.

The Vineyard Community & Richmond Foodbank provides daily services and support for local people experiencing crises such as food poverty, impact from the cost-of-living crisis, homelessness, mental and physical health breakdown, having become refugees, DV, social exclusion towards hopeful futures.

A school spokesperson added: “A huge well done to everyone who took part in the incredible charity endurance challenge – Row the Thames! You absolutely smashed it, rowing a total of 386km – that’s 40km more than the length of the River Thames!

“Despite the heat, your determination and unshakable team spirit carried you through every stroke. It was inspiring to see students supporting one another, pushing through the challenge, and giving it their all. What a fantastic day of effort, encouragement, and shared achievement – all in the name of a truly amazing cause.

“Thank you and congratulations to all involved – we are so proud of you.”
