HAM COMMON TRAVELLERS MOVED ON AFTER RICHMOND COUNCIL INTERVENTION

A group of travellers who illegally set up camp at Ham Common left this afternoon after council bailiffs from Richmond Council visited the site.
Earlier a spokesperson said: “We are aware that a group of travellers arrived on Ham Common yesterday evening. At the moment, we have only received information regarding their arrival, and there have been no calls at this stage to report any anti-social behaviour or crime related issues.
“We are working with LBRUT as they retain primacy for the response to this unauthorised encampment and they have asked for the below to be shared;
*’We are aware that an unauthorised encampment has been set up at Ham Common.
“Unauthorised encampments breach our Public Space Protection Orders which prohibit unauthorised access to our open spaces. Welfare checks will be carried out first thing in the morning, and we have started the legal process to ensure the group moves on as soon as possible.’*
Uniformed officers attended he encampment this morning and further reassurance patrols will be taking place until resolved. Please call 101/999 as appropriate should you witness any issues or behaviour that requires a police response.”
The unauthorised encampment was served legal notices to vacate the open space earlier this afternoon, and at 4pm bailiffs acting on behalf of LBRUT visited the location.
A spokesperson said: “All persons and vehicles have now left Ham Common.”
