MORE TROUBLE FOR THAMES WATER
RICHMOND COUNCIL HAS ISSUED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT
Thames Water have had to close Richmond Hill outside Glenmore House.
A 14-inch-high pressure water main busted in the early hours of Sunday morning, Thames Water initially struggled to close the main due to a valve failure, they cannot shut the main fully as it would leave residents without water.
They plan to shut the main in the early hours of Tuesday morning in order to cause the least disruption to residents. Replacement parts and a new section of pipe have been delivered to site.
They are hoping to complete repairs tonight and tomorrow.
Unfortunately, when the Thames Water main burst it bored a hole in the side of a 160mm gas main, meaning water has entered the gas main. Cadent Gas have patched the hole to stop any more water entering the main but cannot carry out their repairs until the Thames Water repair has been complete.
It is too early to tell how much water has got into the gas main and what the consequence of this might be for residents.
Cadent Gas are on site assessing the damage and speaking to residents.
They are excavating further down Richmond Hill near the junction of Vineyard on a syphon, to start to drain the water from their main.
Cadent Gas are letter dropping residents in the affected area and if any residents detect any issues with their gas, they need to contact Cadent Gas immediately on 0800 389 8000.
Thames Water currently have 4-way temporary traffic signals at the junction of Star and Garter Hill carrying out a Clean Water Tanker Operation due to the Burst Water Main.
While they complete the repair, water is being added back into the pipes using tankers.
