LEADS ON DOGS NO LONGER COMPULSORY IN BUSHY PARK FROM TODAY

The compulsory rule of keeping dogs on leads in Bushy Park during the deer-birthing season is lifted from today (aug 1) allowing hundreds of dog walkers to return to their favourite routes in the park.

Although the ban is formally lifted and owners will not face legal action if their dogs are off leads Royal Parks officials do urge owners to keep their dogs on leads because of the unpredictability of the deer and for the welfare of other wildlife in the Park like skylarks.

Many dog owners steer clear of Bushy Park during the ‘compulsory leads’ deer-birthing season preferring to take their dogs over Teddington bridge to the common there.

A Bushy Park spokesperson said: “Deer birthing season has now concluded, and it is no longer compulsory to have your dog on a lead in the park.

“We appreciate everyone who adhered to the guidelines over the past three months. Please continue to keep a safe distance of 50 metres from the deer to help Keep Wildlife Wild.”
