Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey, local MPs and councillors turned out today to demonstrate their support to scrap the controversial “Thames Sewage Pump” scheme.

Local MPs Sarah Olney, Munira Wilson and Sir Ed along with many local councillors met campaigners opposing Thames Water’s Teddington Direct River Abstraction scheme now better known as “The Thames Sewage Pump.”

Sir Ed Davey took to the water and talked to swimmers, kayakers, rowers, paddleboarders and other water users who told him how Thames Water’s proposals will ruin one of the best social and environmental waterside sites on the Thames.

Ian McNuff a founder member of “Save Our Lands and River” (SOLAR) said: “The public looks at this proposed scheme with utter disbelief. Thames Water has refused to show why they say this is the best value solution from 1400 schemes they reviewed.

“It’s the best for them because by building it they can borrow more money to pass to their owners. It’s the  worst of all worlds for the customer and environment – there are many better alternatives.”
