STATION LIFTS WERE CLOSED AFTER PERSON TRAPPED

South Western Railway today provided a full statement about the Teddington railway station lifts, which have been out of service causing disruption and issues for passengers.

In detailed statement the network revealed that the fire brigade had to rescue a person from one of the lifts which required significant work including cutting through bolts.

The spokesperson said: “The lifts at Teddington station have been out of service since 11th September as the fire brigade were called to release a trapped person from Lift 1.

“In order to free the person quickly, they had to cut through bolts and bend the hanging bar which supported the lift door.

“Replacement parts were ordered from Italy to make the needed repairs and these arrived at the end of last week, lift 2 was also taken out of service as the lifts design mean they can only work in tandem.

“Our engineers rebuilt lift one following the delivery of the replacement parts on Friday.

“During the mandatory safety testing process, a software fault was identified with the lifts.

“Our teams are currently waiting for a final sign off before the lifts can enter into service.

“We are very sorry for this continued disruption.”
