SIXTY FIVE RABBITS SAVED IN MASSIVE RESCUE OPERATION IN TWICKENHAM
The Animal Rescue and Care team (ARC) in Twickenham has told of a remarkable ten day operation to save SIXTY FIVE rabbits.
Operation co-ordinator Melanie Watson said: “We thought it was an impossible task, but after 10 days of patience, surveillance, trapping and some light digging, we are confident we have safely rescued all the rabbits in this huge situation.
“This is the biggest rabbit rescue we’ve ever led on, and the sense of relief and joy is huge. Every single one of them deserves a second chance.
“This began when an 80 year old man got a mis-sexed pair.
“They quickly burrowed and multiplied at an alarming rate.
“Yesterday we caught the final elusive ‘top rabbit’ in the warren.
“We’ve named this girl Gertie. And a final little tan baby came out with her.
“The enormous task of vaxing, neutering and rehoming these bunnies has begun.
“Yesterday some were in the vets to have bites treated, but the majority are well, friendly and curious.
“THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to our fundraiser, sent food and hay, offered foster spaces and homes.
“This is the biggest rabbit rescue we have ever led on and we are immensely grateful to the animal loving community for your help.
Melanie added: “The response has been incredible.
“People have sent hay, food, bedding, and even offered foster spaces. Every donation, big or small, makes a real difference.”
The charity is encouraging anyone who can help to donate through its official GoFundMe page, or to contact them about adoption and fostering opportunities once the rabbits are ready.
ARC is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers and rehomes around 600 animals every year across West London and Surrey.
The charity provides medical and specialist care for unwanted, abandoned, and neglected animals and works to find them loving permanent homes.
