AUSSIE RUGBY STARS MEET FANS AT THE LENSBURY
Two Aussie rugby players and one of their legendary coaches gave guests a fascinating insight into their match preparation and expressed their affection for Teddington at a charity fundraiser at The Lensbury.
Winger/full back Andrew Kellaway, prop Tom Robertson and coach Laurie Fisher were quizzed by former Richmond coach Steve Hill before the opening game in the Autumn internationals against England at Allianz Stadium on Saturday.
The guest panel was questioned about the surprising omission of the Quins fly-half Marcus Smith from the starting team and the replacements.
Tom described him as one of ‘the best Number Ten’s in the world’ but George Ford, who will start for England was a ‘stalwart’ of the game,’ he said.
“Marcus will be back but we are lucky he’s not playing this weekend but that only proves what a strong side England has and their depth of talent.”
Kellaway, who will start at full-back in Saturday also revealed his unusual musical talent being able to play the bagpipes as he attended a school in Australia with a strong Scottish heritage.
The trio were united in their praise for the Lensbury and its state of the art facilities – which attract lots of top sports teams – but also love the proximity of pubs and the High Street. They enjoyed supper at The Anglers and The King’s Head pubs.
The evening was organised for the local RUILS charity which has strong links to rugby and supports independent living for disabled children and adults. It hoped to raise £2000 on the night.
Coach Laurie Fisher also gifted his personalised kit as a raffle item for SporTedd’s next fund raising dinner when World Cup winning Red Roses coach, John Mitchell will be the guest at The Wharf on Tuesday, November 18.
