TOP FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER SETS UP DOG PORTRAIT BUSINESS IN TEDDINGTON

Eric Frideen has moved seamlessly from the glamorous world of high fashion photography to a new world of launching a dog portrait business in Teddington.
He worked with top magazines like Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, GQ and Arena capturing memorable images of people like Catherine Deneuve and Tom Hardy.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Eric, 56, moved to England in 1996 and now lives in Teddington where he has recently set up his new business The Canine Edit based on his life-long love of dogs.

Even his early life was dominated by photography, starting off as a photographer’s assistant and working in advertising – only interrupted by military service in Sweden.
He came ill during the COVID pandemic which gave him time reflect on the direction of his career. “I think I was running out steam and it was time to rethink my career,” he says.
“I didn’t really know what I wanted to do but I do love dogs. I was a dog walker for a while but I had to do something. I’d always loved dogs, I love being outside and I love photography so the answer was suddenly obvious.”
His own dog (photographed above) is a chocolate coloured Spaniel called Cocoa who he has had for nearly four years since she was a puppy.
“It’s still early days but I am getting a very positive response from the local community and there are hundreds of dogs in Teddington because of the parks and the river,” he adds.
Eric says getting the perfect portrait of a dog is not straightforward because you cannot control the dog.
“You have to be very, very patient and get the dog to trust you and establish a connection with them You have to be very careful with flash because some dogs are freaked out by it.
“Lots of dog owners want portraits of their dogs to create treasured family memories, a bit like children. They have been an important part of their lives but in the case of dogs, they may not be with you forever.”
His website says: “At The Canine Edit, each portrait is an editorial experience — merging timeless artistry with over 20 years of fashion photography expertise.
“From Burberry to Vogue, my career has been defined by capturing character and creating imagery that resonates. Now, I bring that same high-end, fashion-forward approach to your beloved companion.
“Every session is designed to celebrate your dog’s unique personality through fine art imagery worthy of your home and heart.”
