GYPSY JAZZ AT ST JAMES’S CHURCH, HAMPTON HILL

Fidelio Hot Club, one of the finest gypsy jazz quartets in the UK today, bringing together four of the most sought after musicians on the London scene will be performing at St James’s Church, Hampton Hill on January 30 as part of their UK tour, it was confirmed today. (Reonel Rafolls violin, Cornelius Corkery guitar, Sol Grimshaw guitar, Toby Yapp, double bass).
The group are steeped in the tradition of the great Django Reinhardt and Stephanie Grappelli, however they are far from the average band playing the regular old classics in the regular old way.
As well as the authentic hot club sound of the 1930s, expect to hear compositions from the likes of Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Paizzolla, David Bowie, as well as plenty of Django Reinhardt and original compositions.
After their highly acclaimed 2024 live performance on Radio 3’s ‘In Tune‘, the group has released a debut recording.
The Fidelio Hot Club draws inspiration from the hot jazz of the 30s and 40s but also heavily draws upon the classical music world. Led by Ray Rafols on violin the group arranges famous classical pieces of music into the format of violin, 2 acoustic guitars and double bass, whilst still keeping its roots in the gypsy jazz sound world.
The band looks forward to releasing its first Ep in 2026 coming off the back of a successful year of tours, Radio 3 live broadcasts and their highly successful monthly residency at the Fidelio cafe in Clerkenwell.
The concert takes place in the church. Doors open at 7pm, and the concert starts at 7.30pm. There will be an interval. A licensed bar will be open throughout the evening. Premium seating at bistro tables closest to the stage have already sold out but there are still excellent seats available for £18.
