YOUNG TEDDINGTON ARTIST SET TO APPEAR IN TV’S LANDSCAPE ARTIST OF THE YEAR

Dan West, who describes himself as an ’emerging artist’ from Teddington will be appearing in Heat Four of the Sky Landscape Artist of the Year (2026) on February 4, Teddington Town can exclusively reveal.
Dan, 24, who attended Collis Primary School, Teddington School and Esher College before studying marketing at the University of Portsmouth, first appeared in the show when he was just 22 but returns this year as one of the main artists.
He also worked at The Anglers pub as a barman. His family live near The Landmark Arts Centre in the heart of Teddington.
His heat, filmed back in June, took place in Keswick in the Lake District and he competes against part-time and professional artists for a place in the semi-final. Dan had four hours to create a piece of artwork worthy of progressing to the next round.
He battled it out against 6 talented artists in the extreme summer heat under the watchful eyes of the judges, but was it good enough to advance to the semi-finals? You can find out by tuning in on February 4.
In contrast to many artists on the show, Dan rejected formal art study and chose to pursue his passion for drawing and storytelling independently.
Inspired by his own experiences, the storytelling of Hiyao Miyazaki and music from artists including Bon Iver and Sam Fender, Dan manifests his inspirations in his amazing pencil drawings.
Dan has developed his style over a number of years, with his main body of work focusing on the relationship between people and their environment.
Sky Arts is in its 11th season of Landscape Artist of the Year, a compelling art competition hosted by Stephen Mangan (actor and comedian) and judged by Tai-Shan Schierenberg (painter), Kathleen Soriano (arts curator) and Eva Langret (Director of Frieze London).
Artists, such as Dan, enter with a landscape artwork created within the last 5 years. They are selected on merit by a panel of expert judges. At the heats they are given 4 hours to paint a particular, stunning landscape somewhere in the UK. Dan’s piece features a mountain view in Keswick.
Six heat winners get to compete at the Semi-Final. Three Semi Finalists are selected for the Final. Just one Finalist is selected as the overall winner.
You can watch Dan on episode 4, which will air on February 4th on Sky Arts and Sky Showcase (available on Freeview).
Dan said: “This was one of the most surreal experiences of my life and it is quite the memory to look back on. I’ve watched the show with my family for years and to have the opportunity to compete on it alongside a group of passionate and inspiring artists was amazing.
“I am very proud of the work that I created and whilst I can’t say I’m too excited to watch my interviews back, I am looking forward to celebrating with my family and friends when the episode airs.”
