RICHMOND SOCIETY ‘SHOCKED’ BY ROBBERY

The Richmond Society said today (Sunday) it was ‘shocked’ by the robbery which took place in Paved Court on Saturday January 31st.
In a statement The Society said: “In a video circulated widely, two masked men are seen smashing the window of Gregory & Co in broad daylight and taking items from the display despite being challenged by members of staff.
“This was an assault on a family-run small business in the heart of a tourist location during an important day for retailers by a couple of criminals who didn’t worry about a police response or being filmed in full sight.
“We note that official figures show that crime in general in Richmond has been decreasing – a subject we’ll return to shortly – but this episode shows there is no room at all for complacency.
“In particular, we are concerned that on some reports it took the police more than 15 minutes to respond to the incident, though we are unable independently to verify this.
“We also urge anyone with information about the robbery to report it immediately to the police. https://www.met.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/”
