FLYING SQUAD INVESTIGATE RICHMOND JEWELLERY ROBBERY

The audacious daylight robbery at Gregory & Co’s jewellery shop in Paved Court, Richmond is now being investigated by the Met Police’s Flying Squad, it has been revealed.
A local police spokesperson told Teddington Town: “I’m sure the robbery at the jewellery store has been the topic of much debate and concern.
“Incidents like this are rare especially in Richmond but I understand however, this has caused much concern in the community including the local businesses.
“The incident is being investigated by the Flying Squad and enquiries are ongoing with the investigation being handled diligently and expeditiously.”
The police also revealed a robbery took place on Little Green, Richmond, on Saturday when a 16 year old was threatened with violence by two individuals. They made off with the victim’s headphones and glasses but there were no injuries.
Meanwhile the leader of Richmond Borough council, Cllr. Gareth Roberts has expressed his concern at the removal of local police support.
He says: “It is against the backdrop of the insidious nature of a growing fear of crime that recent decisions by the Metropolitan Police hierarchy seem all the more baffling.
“At a time when the fear of crime is on the increase it seems perverse to be removing some of the most visible signs that an area is policed.
“I should stress that I remain fully supportive of our local police teams. Our frontline officers do an incredible job of policing our streets with seemingly increasingly reduced resources. Not for nothing are we London’s safest borough.
“However, at a time when trust and confidence are taking a battering, removing visible signs of policing in our town centres seems a backward step.”
