SPECIAL GRIT LAID FOR MIGRATING NEWTS IN BUSHY PARK

Bushy Park has revealed it is trialling ‘amphibian-friendly’ grit on pathways near Hampton Hill to help protect newts as they make their annual migration to ponds.
Special signs have been placed in the area. The yellow sign says: CAUTION – Newts on the Move.
It adds: “We are using alternative gritting materials in the area to protect migrating newts. Please take extra care.”
Bushy Park says: ” You may have noticed this signage appearing in the park.
“We’re trialling amphibian-friendly grit on pathways near Hampton Hill to help protect newts as they make their annual migration to breeding ponds.
“Standard rock salt isn’t suitable for amphibians, so we’ve switched to a salt-free alternative in this area.
“If you’re walking or cycling near Hampton Hill Pond, please take extra care.”
