TEDDINGTON ARTIST PLANS FUTURE AFTER TV EXPERIENCE

Teddington artist Dan West, 24, has spoken of his experience after reaching the semi-final of Sky’s Landscape Artist of the Year.
Dan, who attended Collis School and Teddington School and lives with his family in Teddington said: “I’m proud to have gotten to the semi finals of Landscape Artist of the Year.
“Whilst I didn’t progress to the final 3, the comments I received were amazing and it was an invaluable opportunity to challenge myself in a high-pressure environment.
“The experience of the competition was mad but the response to my appearance on the show was and continues to be an experience in and of itself.
“The messages from everyone have been overwhelmingly kind and the show has helped me to connect with people in a way I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to.
“The show has also allowed me to open up my own online shop, where I have had an amazing response to my prints and has given me some exciting commission opportunities.
“Looking forwards, I plan to keep creating and sharing my work with other people.
“I will start building narratives over a succession of drawings as opposed to one offs – I feel this will help to create a more immersive experience and a more thorough story to what I am doing.
“I’ll also be looking to incorporate music into my work in terms of title names and as an accompaniment to the image on Instagram.
“Music is a big part of my life and for those who want to interact with my work in a different way, the option will be there!
“I have finally finished my first drawing since the show was filmed – a drawing of the Masons Arms, one of my favourite pubs in Teddington and which took about 3 months to complete (My family and I normally go there after having a curry at Tak Atak.). I’ll be posting this on my Instagram, soon!
”Following this, I’ll just have to see what inspires me and go on from there…”
