Breaking News – LIMITED CLOSURES FOR TEDDINGTON FOOTBRIDGE – COUNCIL STATEMENT
Future works will include the ramp on the Teddington side near The Anglers pub and Ferry Road
Limited overnight closures of Teddington footbridge will be necessary to undertake future maintenance works, it was announced by Richmond Council this afternoon (friday)
A statement issued at just after 4pm today said: “We have worked closely with the contractor and designers to ensure that access across the bridges is maintained during normal working hours.
“There will however be the requirement for some limited closures to the bridge (which will take place overnight) to undertake some of the works.
“These closures will therefore allow the majority of essential journeys to remain unaffected during busier times.”
The two footbridges connect Ham to Teddington and provide a significant short cut for school children and for cycling commuters as well as being a popular route for joggers and dog walkers.
The less disruptive works started in June but work will now begin on the refurbishment of the main bridge, which includes removal of corrosion and the application of a new protective paint system.
The Council says this phase of work will start next Tuesday (August 29) and will be completed towards the end of the year.
Signs will be in place advising of the closure dates and times, as and when they are required.
The statement added: “The expected duration of the works is based on the information we have been able to obtain through site investigations work, undertaken in advance of the actual works.
“When undertaking works of this nature and on a structure of this age we may find that the condition of the bridge differs from prior assessments.
“We will make every endeavour to carry out this phase of works within the period we have outlined but will inform you at the earliest opportunity if we anticipate works will take longer than expected.
There will also be a second phase of works, which will include the replacement of the approach ramp from Ferry Road. More details of these works will be issued closer to the time.
