TEDDINGTON REMEMBERS – PHOTO SPECIAL

Hundreds of people including many children turned out to mark Remembrance Sunday in Teddington with a special service outside the War Memorial cenotaph at Teddington Hospital.
The Rev David Cloake from St Mary with St Alban conducted the service attended by local MP Munira Wilson and local councillors as well as many charity and military representatives.
The dry, sunny morning attracted many more people than normal.

Wreaths were presented by Richmond Borough, the Royal British Legion, the Royal Navy, a Jamaican Wreath, the Intelligence Corps, the Sea Cadets, the Police, the RNLI, St John’s Ambulance, the Rotary Club, St Mary with St Alban Church, the Constitutional Club, Teddington Society, Salvation Army, Teddington Memorial Hospital, Scouts Group, Teddington District Guides, Explorer Scout Units, Turing School and Park Lane Stables.

The Teddington War Memorial is a cenotaph made of Portland Stone and 5.4 metres high inscribed with the names of 337 soldiers who died in World War One. It also includes a citation to those who gave their lives in World War Two. It was unveiled in 1921.
The Last Post was sounded shortly before the traditional period of two minute silence at precisely 11am followed by Reveille and the Kohima Prayer: “When you go home, tell them of us and say: For your tomorrow we gave our today.”

The service ended with the National Anthem and The Blessing.
