DOUBLE-GOLD OLYMPIAN ACHIEVES PERSONAL BEST AT BUSHY PARKRUN





Former double gold world medallist Dame Kelly Holmes achieved a personal best when she joined hundreds of other in the Saturday morning 5km Parkrun in Bushy Park, it has been revealed.
Her remarkable time was 18 mins 51 secs and she came in 28th out of a total number of runners of 1521. She was the fourth woman and the three in front of her were aged between 18 and 22 and she was FIRST in her age group between 55 and 59.
Kelly, 55, who won gold medals in both the 800 and 1500 metres at the Summer Olympics in Athens in 2004, said: “Congratulations to Jim 83 and Merran 81 and Stragglers Running Club who are showing us all that keeping active and mobile is fantastic for the body and mind.”
The celebrity runner was happy to pose for photos and chat with other runners.
A Parkrun official said: “Dame Kelly finished 28th and produced her second ever fastest parkrun time of 18:51, which gave her an impressive 94.78% age grading.
“Her Military in Motion group started in lockdown, with an aim of giving people some support and incentive to train and keep fit.
“The group at Bushy had travelled from all over the country to run and walk the event, and for all of them it was their first Bushy experience. Well after they had all finished, Dame Kelly was still posing for photos and chatting to other participants.”
