NEW GATES REPLACE WOODEN BOX PLANTERS ALONG BUSHY PARK’S CHESTNUT AVENUE

New gates are being installed along Chestnut Avenue in Bushy Park today to replace the two sets of wooden box planters designed to prevent through traffic.
The steel gates will offer better vision of oncoming traffic – mostly cyclists – following several nasty collisions because the large block-like planters can obstruct a clear view.
The wooden box planters at either end of the vehicle restricted length of Chestnut Avenue will be replaced with gates, which will have the appearance of wood.
In a similar way to the boxes, the gates will have a gap between them to allow safe passage for authorised vehicles such as Royal Parks personnel, gardeners, contractors and the police and other emergency services.
The road which runs through the park was closed off to vehicles in 2020 as a trial which was later made permanent because of the positive health and pollution impact of fewer vehicles and despite the objections of those who used the part as a convenient cut through from Teddington to Hampton court.
The work is being carried out by S & A Steel Services Ltd from Faversham and today their team were happy to pose for a photo as they started the work in stunning weather in the park.
