BRIDGE CLOSURES WILL BE RESTRICTED AT TEDDINGTON LOCK (amended)

Bridge will need to be closed for work on the approach ramp on the far right of the photo

The two bridges crossing the River Thames at Teddington Lock are ONLY expected to be closed for TWO WEEKENDS during the next important phase of works, which starts next month, the Council confirmed today

During the next six months of works, there are only two weekend-long planned periods of complete closure required to complete the works – with access to the bridges being completely restricted from Friday evening until Monday morning.

The bridges provide an easy short cut for cycling commuters as well as school children and is used by hundreds of ramblers and dog walkers every day.

Exact dates for these will be confirmed, but the first weekend closure will take place roughly 6 weeks after the start date.

Access will not be restricted over the Easter weekend or the Early May Bank Holiday. Full details of the closures will be shared once dates are confirmed.

This phase two of the works is expected to start on the 18 March and should take around 6 months.

The phase two works include replacing the Ferry Road approach ramp.

This is a complex phase where a dam will be installed around the ramp and building a temporary access ramp before the removal of the old ramp. The temporary ramp will then be replaced with the new ramp.

These two short closures are necessary to  detach and reattach the old, temporary and new ramps.

Phase one of the works began last summer 2023 and involved removing the areas of corrosion, repairing and replacing any steel work across both structures along with the application of a new protective paint system.
