Uncle furniture was established by Rupert Phelps after graduating from the Chippendale School of Furniture, Scotland. Now based in the South West of London, Rupert designs and makes beautiful hand-crafted contemporary furniture, producing bespoke pieces to commission and for exhibition.
Working with the natural contours of each unique timber, his style is minimal with clean flowing lines. This can be seen in his signature piece, ‘The Hungarian‘, where a hardwood plank has been curved 360 degrees to give continuous unbroken lines of wood grain respecting the colour, grace and form..
Influences range the from the Arts & Crafts, Art Deco movements to Mid Century Modern, works by Renne Mackintosh, Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Peter Womersley.
