Hi all, A reminder of the deadline to speak up about the additional 15 major concerts to be held at Twickenham stadium. I wonder if anyone remembers the massive impact that the Eminem concert had in Twickenham, there was a lot of vandalism and damage done to properties as well as fights breaking out and a lack of police presence. There was no care for the residents of Twickenham and it left a lot of people feeling unsafe. We personally have had people urinating in our garden and destroying our front garden walls whilst staring into our cctv cameras!! Please follow the steps on this leaflet to vote against these additional 15 concerts a year! Step 1: Email your objection Send to: licensing@merton.gov.uk Subject/ref: WK/202497933 Include your name & address Step 2: Go to https://planning.richmond.gov.uk/richmond/application-details/235110 (Or google ‘Richmond gov planning’ and then search for PA25/1465)

Handyman Required: Fixing a Shelf to a Wall A friend in Kingston has been quoted £150 to have a wooden shelf attached to a wall. The shelf is mounted on three brackets, each with two screws; the shelf is just over three feet long and is quite heavy. The wall is plasterboard mounted on a wooden frame (presumably 2" x 2" studs). My friend thinks that £150 is excessive; does anyone know of a handyman who could do the job for less than that? (I'd do the job for her myself, but I'm accustomed to brick walls, not stud walls.)

First time I’ve seen this in 25 years of teaching. A full time, fully qualified classroom teacher wanted BUT they won’t be paid during the holidays. These schools must be struggling if they can’t even pay their teachers properly.

Thank you for sharing. While it's inevitable that local residents will oppose this, their voices are unlikely to be truly heard. Sadly, commercial interests almost always take precedence. Living near Twickenham Stadium means accepting the less pleasant side of it—just as those under Heathrow’s flight path or even out of it must endure the constant drone of planes circling overhead.

Sunny this is sad, I do hope they consider our views, rugby crowds are very different to some concert crowds and I’ve heard rumours that the stadium has been offered to Chelsea while they upgrade their stadium and football crowds are very rowdy and antisocial which isn’t what people buying in Twickenham signed up for and also will certainly make Twickenham a much less desirable place to live!

Oh my gosh! I bet property prices have absolutely plummeted. Err…
Reply
Liz it is incredibly worrying! Rugby crowds are so different to concert & football crowds!

I emailed saying its a great idea the stadium needs the income
Reply
Mike and brings massive needed income to our high street.

How do we make an objection. Also can I suggest you put this on Facebook and Whitton Village which is on Facebook and Twickenham community.

Whether you for or against, you do need to provide accurate info. Not all 15 extra events will necessarily be concerts. Protest by all means, but be fair and accurate in your statements.

Ingrid As far as l aware and l drive past the stadium everyday. They do open the stadium. Everyday for minor events.....no problem there. Then l believe they hold Jehovah Witness conventions there in July. The petition is against the major events there Rugby for example. There is NO proper transport structure involved.....the stewarding is appealing. I did crowd control as a special for 17 years. So l know what l am talking about in that area. When they built the stadium l lived on the Ivybridge The RFU had the perfect opportunity to have a railway station on Tescos opposite. A tunnel could been built from Mortlake straight to the ground...such as Wembley Stadium.
Reply
The ground was there when we moved here. Twickenham Stadium does NOT have the suitabicity for large games. Stewarding is terrible. Roads are gridlocked. The railway station is the ONLY form of easy getaway. And the crowds are dangerously high. Buses,, these are normally parked on Rugby Road. And A316 to allow fans from Richmond Rail station. I am totally opposed to any increase of events. People on here who say it's good for the area....financial wise. Probably don't live in the same location like l do.

I’m all for this as a vehicle to promote investment in the area and also to promote the wider area. It’s not just about match days if people have a good time then they may likely come back again. All the high streets here are suffering from lack of investment Twickenham, Whitton, Hounslow and even Richmond is starting to fade.
Reply
I’m a 2 minute walk and have never seen anything untoward. Stop being killjoys and think of the local economy especially pubs which are really struggling. Don’t like it stay home
Reply
Jennifer i totally agree

Of course everyone who is opposed to this bought their homes before 1907, when Twickenham was first built. You bought your home when the stadium was running, OK things have moved on and things have changed over the years. This is called progress. The extra events are needed to fund the stadium, it cannot manage on existing events only. The RFU has said if this does not happen they will probably have to move away from Twickenham to a different area and stadium where events can be held. So then you will have a run down stadium while waiting for it to be turned into high rise apartments and offices, which will not sell. Oppose yes but careful what you wish for.
Reply
John They probably bought their homes before the stadium was expanded
Reply
Irene possibly, but as I said that is progress
Reply
I agree with you John. Which would you prefer, a few extra well managed concerts, or the RFU moving out and we get 5 million flats built, with all that that would bring. If they can get the revenue from the concerts, hopefully that will keep Chelsea out. Now that would be a disaster.
Reply
Chris if the RFU move out then there is an 80000 seater stadium up for sale.
Reply
That is a possibility, of course. Would you prefer a football team to buy it, many more games and a very different crowd? No thank you. Keeping it as the home of Rugby and few concerts has got to be the way to go. You never know, you might even like some of the concerts?
Reply
I really dont think these large mob events work anymore. Residents lives become nightmare to often and we ve run out of room to proper/pay police them. Time have a rethink.
Reply
Madeleine where do you live?
Reply
Which large mob events in particular?
Reply
Anthony i live next to high street. As you say i have never seen a large mob. Just people enjoying the match days and traffic now is very well managed. Majority come by train anyway.
Reply
I think this is great - though discounted tickets for local residents would be a nice initiative.
Reply
I think it’s a good idea for local business and even the local schools as they hire out their car parking spaces and the money goes straight back into the school. By living near a stadium you know it’s going to be busy and hold events etc. Shutting off the roads can be inconvenient but that is only whilst people enter and vacate the stadium.
Reply
Samantha really? Do we drink as much and piss over everything in site and vomit ? No
Reply
Lisa & Nick I have no idea what you’re on about

I think it’s amazing I’ve managed to get tickets for some amazing gigs at Twickenham and never ever seen any bad behaviour.
Reply
Lisa & Nick i remember seeing rolling stones years ago there. Totally amazing
Reply
Lisa Hmmm… Are we to conclude that because you’ve never seen any bad behaviour, there is no bad behaviour? The end of my road has manned barriers to stop fans coming up the street, looking for somewhere to take a leak. I have a car, but I cycle whenever I can. Better for me and better for the environment. Fancy a game of Russian roulette? Try cycling through Twickenham around mid afternoon on a match day. You’ve got fans who were necking it in the Cabbage Patch at 10am, and a few hours later they’ve reached immortality. They walk out into the road as if they own the place and expect other road users to take whatever evasive action is necessary. I’ve lived in the area for over 20 years. I accept the restrictions that accompany match days. But I’ve given up cycling as a mode of transport on match days.
