Primary school closed after asbestos found
St Mary’s & St Peter’s Primary School remained closed today delaying the start of the new term. Asbestos was discovered in the boiler room of the school during a survey last week, part of the planned expansion to answer the ever-growing lack of primary school places in Teddington.
Cleaning work was carried out over the weekend and the school’s website warned parents that the school would remain closed one day further than planned to ensure the “safety and welfare of our pupils and staff at all times.”
A further update on the school’s website gave the good news that after a further inspection, there was no immediate threat to the safety of children or adults – the area in question is now sealed off and the school is set to open on Tuesday 8th September.
