This year the Teddington Christmas Lights will be switched on by Mayor Cllr David Marlow and award-winning children’s book author Jacqueline Wilson. This will be taking place on the evening of Thursday November 25th 2010. The lights will be switched on at 6pm and most participating shops will be open until 9pm.

Jacqueline’s books have sold over 25 million copies in the UK alone and have also been adapted for TV. Her success has led to her having been awarded a OBE for services to literacy in schools, leading to her appointment of Children’s Laureate and more recently also made a DBE. Jacqueline lives in Kingston and can often be spotted enjoying walks in nearby Bushy Park.
This year The Causeway will again be closed for the festivities which will include a RNLI Lifeboat, Santa’s Sleigh, ‘Reindeer’ pony rides with Elves, Santa’s grotto, Teddington School Jazz Band, treasure hunt, mulled wine and hog roast, late night shopping and a that’s just for starters! Check back here nearer the time for a full listing of events and shops that will be open.
Funds for the town’s Christmas Lights are donated from members of Teddington Business Community (funds are matched by Richmond Council). However, changes made to the funding structure this year and the additional of timers to lampposts mean that there is a budget shortfall.
You can help out make the town sparkle for Christmas this year by answering a specially created Christmas Quiz and donating £1 to submit this and enter a prize draw. As well as supporting the Christmas Lights fund that helps us all get into the festive spirit, you could also win a wonderful hamper and many other prizes donated by local businesses. You can pick up a quiz from many local high street shops including Shambles and Casa Del Habano.
