To celebrate The Royal Parks hosting a number of events during the London 2012 Olympics, a photography competition is being held to find the best pictures of London’s eight Royal Parks. If you’re aged 13 or over then you can send in your favourite snaps of Bushy (or any other) Royal Park. The winner will be decided by a public vote on Facebook.

To be in with a chance of winning a commemorative box set of all 8 London Olympics 2012 Park badges, attend this Facebook event and post your favourite photo on the wall along with a brief description. The competition runs until 13th of December and don’t forget to vote for your favourite!

If you think saw an unusual number of Santa’s in the area in today then you weren’t seeing things – this Sunday morning runners braved the extremely cold weather to take part in this years Santa Fun Run in Bushy Park.

This yearly charity run is to help raise funds and awareness for Princess Alice Hospice and the free Santa suits that were provided a welcome extra layer of protection against the sub-zero temperatures. Even some dogs joined in with the dressing up!

Currently meetings are being held by the recently-formed Richmond and Bushy Parks Forum concerning the transfer of management from Royal Parks to the Mayor of London. Items being discussed include policing, funding, legal status and transference of all parks as a single entity. This comes at a time where funding to the parks is to be cut by 25% over the next three years.

Local groups representing the interests of park users include Friends of Bushy and Home Parks, The Teddington Society, local resident associations and nearby councillors. They will next convene on the 14th December at Pembroke Lodge. If any other parties are interested in attending and contributing to this forum then get in touch with Annie Murray at Friends of Bushy and Home Parks.
