Bentalls Centre ‘suicide’

NewsShoppers and staff in Bentalls shopping centre are still shaken after witnessing the distressing sight of a woman fall to her death from an upper floor just after 2pm on Monday 17th January.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:22pm. Shortly after the tragedy the shopping centre was evacuated as police investigated the scene and it remained closed until Tuesday morning. Next of kin have been informed but other family members might have yet to be contacted. A post-mortem will be held at Kingston Hospital on Thursday.

Police have now traced the family of the woman and have stated that she was in her 40’s (not younger as was first reported) and the death is being treated as non-suspicious.

[Update Friday 21st January] The woman has been officially named as Alexis Sims, 45 from Hampton. Alexis ran an osteopaths from a space above The New Generation on Broad Street, Teddington.

Her two sons attend St Mary’s and St Peter’s primary school, where today the headteacher has paid a tribute to Mrs Sims:
“We are all very saddened by the news. She was a much loved person with many friends in the school. We send our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family at this very difficult time.”

A note on the clinic window reads: “The family of Alexis Sims would like to inform all her clients of her death following a tragic accident. She would want us to thank you all for your support over the last 8 years”.
