Volunteer lock keepers wanted
The Environment Agency is on the lookout for volunteer lock keepers to work along the River Thames in order to improve services.
They wish to have staff presence at all of Thames’ 44 locks along the non-tidal stretch of the river from this summer, including Teddington Lock.
Waterways operation manager Andrew Graham: “We want people who live in the local area around our locks to get more involved; using what they know about the River Thames and its surroundings to better inform visitors about everything it has to offer.”

These roles will work alongside other Environment Agency staff including lock and weir keepers so that visitors and boat-owners can benefit from on-hand advice and assistance.
On-the-job training will be provided as well as a branded uniform. So if you fancy working outdoors in the fresh air helping boats through locks, interacting with the public and being an ambassador for the river, get in touch with the EA.
Elsewhere Ikon Science are also looking to hire a receptionist for their office in central Teddington. The company provides geoscience software and technology to assess oil and gas exploration.
Looking at the buildings in the background it looks like the tsunami has now made it to Teddington!
