Charity Update

NewsPrincess Alice Hospice will be holding their annual Midnight Pyjama Walk on Saturday 8th September 10pm, starting and finishing at St Mary’s University College. The 8 and 12 mile routes will go through Teddington high street, Twickenham, over Richmond Bridge, through Ham to Teddington Lock.

If you are interested in supporting the Hospice’s ‘8 to 8’ nurses you can join in for £12 entry fee and raise funds for this worthy cause. See here for more info & to join – the larger the group you join with, the more fun you will have!

It is now the eleventh year that locals will be raising funds for McMillan Cancer Support during the yearly national Coffee Morning fund-raiser at Imperial Sports College Pavilion. This will be taking place on Friday 28th September 2012 9:30am-2pm and there will be coffee and cakes galore as part of this national fund-raising event.

There will also be a Family Fun Day and bric-a-brac sale at the same venue on Sunday 23rd September from 11am-4pm. Here there will be a steel band, stalls, bar, food, coffee, homemade cakes, raffles and plants and if you fancy being on the other side of the table you can pay £25 for a stall to help raise funds yourself.

Teddington had a couple of extra guests recently – Megan Lewis has ridden a horse from Beijing to London to mark the passing of the Olympics from one country to another and raise funds for Schoolchildren For Children. The “The Long Horse Ride” has been an epic journey spanning the four years since the closing ceremony at the Beijing games in 2008.

The Lensbury kindly offered Megan (left) a bed for the night whilst Zorbee stayed amongst newly found friends Park Lane Stables before they left to continue their journey.

As if sitting in a cold bean-filled bath in Kingston town centre wasn’t enough, Alex Mason has been training hard for her impending 11 day trek to Everest Base Camp at the end of September. She will be raising money for Cancer Research UK. She will be funding the trip herself so every pound raised will go to Cancer Research.

Although she has already broken her target amount of £1 for every metre above sea-level she will climb (5,364), every penny counts for this charity that is fighting to combat the disease that affects so many of us, as with Alex who has had three family members suffer from cancer. You can help by donating here.
