Udney Park Playing Fields – final consultation reminder
Today is the final day to have you say in the Teddington Village Plan. Amongst other local issues the Friends of Udney Park Playing Fields need your support to stop the proposed development on the playing fields. See below from Harry Mann.
The future of the Udney Park Playing Fields continues to be the subject of much local interest. Imperial College put the site up for sale after it decided to concentrate all student sport in Heston. It had been hoped by local residents that the fields would be acquired by a local sporting organisation but in 2015 Imperial sold to Quantum Developments, a property development company acting on behalf of about twenty-four investors. Quantum have been consulting on the future of the site, but this consultation pre-supposes that about a third of the site would be lost to sport by being developed into later living accommodation. The fields are now being used for sport while it is believed that Quantum are preparing their planning application.
A community-based organisation (Friends of Udney Park Playing Fields) has been formed with the aim of preserving the entirety of the fields for amateur sport in accordance with the designation of the fields as Other Open Land of Townscape Importance and the express written wishes of Lord Beaverbrook (who originally donated the playing fields), and to address the shortage of playing fields in the area. More information on the campaign to save the playing fields can be found on the Friends of Udney Park Playing Fields Facebook page, and views on this subject can be submitted by participating in the Teddington Village Plan consultation, this is open until June 27th.
