Richmond council to help struggling residents with heating bills

Residents struggling this winter will be offered grants from the council that will allow them a one-off payment of up to £85.

Local residents receiving benefits or have a low income may be eligible for help from the Council with heating bills.

Grants of up to £85 per household are now available from the Council to protect residents who are at risk from living in fuel poverty in the cold weather at this time of year.

Last year 539 people received the one-off grant which urged the council to repeat the grant in a bid to help the community.

Richmond Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance, Cllr Geoffrey Samuel, said:

“Once again I am delighted to be able to announce our programme of fuel grants. Despite the loss of over £30m in Government grant, the Council continues to give priority to those who are struggling to pay their bills. Make no mistake – these grants make a real difference to families in the borough.”

An application form for the grant can be found on the council website, the deadline for applications is December 24th 2017.
