Teddington kicks off six-month festival to mark 800th birthday
Last weekend saw the start of Teddington’s celebration of being declared a district in 1217.
St Mary with St Alban Church hosted the Teddington 800 as residents came out to celebrate as a community.
The whole community is encouraged to attend and get involved in the jam-packed schedule of events throughout June to November to mark the significant anniversary.
Anne McTear, chairman of the organising committee, said: “The festival is celebrating a lot of things – we are celebrating having such a wonderful community and a sense of togetherness and also the church becoming a parish 800 years ago.
“We are going to have something for everyone and make sure that it will be a fully cross-generational festival so that we can bring everyone together in a way we don’t normally do.”
Each month of the event will have a different theme in order to celebrate the heritage of Teddington and will recognize the eight centuries of life that have lived since it’s inception.
