NHS Trust in Teddington wins award for developing wound treatment app

Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare, based in Teddington, won the Outstanding Practice in Wound Care Award after they developed an app to help wound treatment.

The app allows district nurses to treat wounds immediately without having to speak to specialist, as opposed to them having to call a specialist tissue viability nurse and leave a message.

The Wound Care Buddy Appwhich provides instant information based on current evidence, was praised for it’s ease of use and simple navigation.

Stephen Hall, director of clinical services for Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “Our tissue viability team strongly believes in digital healthcare and our district nurses have welcomed our app with open arms.

“Naturally, we’re absolutely delighted to have this recognition for our innovation and excellent care”.

Judges for the Journal of Community Nursing award said: “We received a huge number of entries that demonstrated excellent wound care in the community around the UK. We asked for evidence of making a real difference in wound care and are pleased to announce the winner did just that.”
