Borough comes together to celebrate local athletes

More than 130 young athletes, parents, team managers and volunteers packed into the Stoop last week for a celebration of Team Richmond’s successful London Youth Games performance.

The evening, hosted by the Council’s Sports Development Team, saw our successful young athletes presented with the medals and trophies they won across this year’s competition. In total Team Richmond won five golds, seven silver and four bronze teams medals and achieve 31 top 10 placings as the Team Richmond finished second.

Team Richmond were also crowned 2018 Regatta champions for the sixth year in a row! Orleans Park and Waldegrave School won the boy’s and the girl’s schools awards respctively for the second year running. Finally, the ParaGames Swimming squads took home the ‘Overall Contribution’ trophy for their fantastic campaign and continued improvements.

Mayor of Richmond, Cllr Ben Khosa attended the ceremony and said:

“It’s always fantastic to celebrate the achievements of talented young people in our borough. Team Richmond’s young athletes have once again performed incredibly well, representing the borough with pride and distinction. Well done to all involved!”
