Marling Court Care Home Host Dementia Awareness Day
Marling Court Care Home in Hampton are hosting a Dementia Awareness Day on Thursday 7th February 2019 between 9am and 5.30pm. Anyone from the local community with an interest in dementia or caring for someone with dementia, is invited to come along on the day free of charge, refreshments will be available.
The day will include the opportunity to join a ‘Virtual Dementia Tour’. The tour is medically and scientifically proven to be the closest that we can give a person with a healthy brain an experience of what dementia might be like. Scary, intimidating, confusing and a feeling of vulnerability, the Virtual Dementia Tour is a ‘must have’ training for everybody that wants to understand dementia by walking in the shoes of a person with the disease.
The ‘Virtual Dementia’ tours will last 2 hours and start at 9.30am, 12.15 pm and 3pm. The tour is free but pre-booking is required. During the Dementia Awareness Day visitors to the care home will have the chance to experience a ‘Magic Table’ Tovartafel. This is an innovative activity designed to stimulate people living with dementia. The Tovertafel was developed for, and with, people in the moderate to severe stages of dementia. The interactive games break through apathy by stimulating both physical and cognitive activity and encouraging social interaction. Moreover, the Tovertafel creates treasured moments with family members and carers. These games are all about enjoyment and wonder and will be available to experience at the Dementia Awareness Day.
