Teddington Lights Up Once Again!

After nearly being cancelled last year, Teddington Together has worked tirelessly with both the traders and council to ensure this year’s Teddington Christmas Lights Up goes ahead.

We have held various events throughout the year to try and raise the funds required to cover the cost of Christmas lights, road closures, wardens, bus diversions, licenses, PA systems, staging and much more across all of the streets. With the help of these events and contributions from the council, local traders and sponsors we are on course to raise all the funding.

We are proud to announce that for the first time in several years Broad Street, High Street, The Causeway, Park Road, and Church Road are joining forces to make it bigger and better.

Our dedicated sponsors The Lensbury, Harlequins, NPL and The Kings Head are showing their continued support again this year.

“TLU 2019 is officially here!! The Kings Head has been supporting the local community for over 9 years and this is our highlight of the year where we all come together and support our local businesses. I look forward to seeing you there.” Polly Dunn, Manager at The Kings Head

“Harlequins is delighted to support Teddington Xmas Lights Up once again. We recognise the vital role our community plays in ensuring our Club maintains its success on and off the pitch and it is so important for us to support however and whenever we can. We’re very much looking forward to another successful event on 28th November and can’t wait to welcome people to Big Game at Twickenham Stadium in December.” Imogen Gaunt, Director of Communications at Harlequins

We are also excited to announce that our new sponsors, national law firm Simpson Millar are on board this year.

“Simpson Millar is delighted to sponsor the Christmas tree on Broad Street, having recently opened an office in Teddington at Spaces, The Causeway.  We are proud to be part of the wonderful community spirit of Teddington.” Ross Smith, Partner at Simpson Millar

The night will commence with the traditional lantern procession starting at 4.30pm on Church Road with the official lights being turned on at 6.30pm on the High Street. The night will include live music, shops staying open, mulled wine, children’s competitions, pony rides, face painting, food tastings and so much more. Church Road will be closed for the night where you’ll find stalls and a live music stage. You’ll also find the RNLI, Twickenham Fire Station, Richmond Jazz School, The Salvation Army, and MiBody bringing their own form of festive entertainment to the night. However, we still want to keep it as a local community event as we feel this was what made it so successful last year.

Bhavna Patel, Chair of Teddington Together, the organisers of the lights, said:

“I would like to thank Richmond Council, local businesses and our sponsors who have offered their support for this event to make sure last year’s situation doesn’t happen again. The Christmas light event has been running now for over 15 years and we would like it to continue for another 15. The event has grown exponentially, not just in terms of the huge number of people attending but also the costs. We are working together as a committee to find new ways of raising the funds to keep it alive.”

Teddington has a unique charm that we are passionate about celebrating so make sure you find time to attend this year to help support your traders and the local community. Whilst we have recently lost some shops, we are still attracting new ones so please show up and help to keep our town alive. Our goal is to create a thriving town and community which can only be done with your help.
