Move it to Lose it this June with Brentford FC!

Men and women aged 30 to 60 living in Richmond upon Thames and who are overweight are invited to join a 12-week weight management programme delivered by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust in partnership with Richmond Council and Public Health.

The Move it to Lose it programme includes coaching by Brentford FC players and coaching staff, nutrition and fitness workshops, free sports t-shirts and one month’s free fitness pass upon completion of the course.

All sessions will take place outdoors every Wednesday evening in Old Deer Park. Sessions will also be recorded and available online. Prices start from £6 per session.

If you live in Richmond upon Thames and would like to take part, book your place by contacting health@brentfordfccst.com and expressing your interest.

Craig Botwin, a Move it to Lose it participant who took part in the last course cohort, said: “I made it to my weight goal! I started at 104.5kg on 26 January and weighed in recently at precisely 90.0kg – a total weight loss of 14.5kg!

“I knew I needed to do something when I joined the class, but I don’t think I knew quite how bad I had gotten through the first lockdown. I went to the doctor around the same time; my blood pressure was high, 180 over 120. With the help of exercise, it’s down to 116 over 80, close to normal levels.

“I can tell the difference in my fitness and the fit of my clothes! The exercise classes and tips such as keeping a food diary help me stay consistent.

“I appreciate the coaches’ efforts; it was great to get something positive from the second lockdown! This is a great initiative, and I hope it continues, as it made a big difference to me and got me to do something about my weight and fitness. To be honest, without it, I am not sure if I would have acted on my own, and given my health at the time, who knows what could have happened.”

Cllr Piers Allen, Lead Member for Adult Social Care and Health and Chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board, said:

“This is a well-established programme that has run for over three years and has helped hundreds of people lose weight and adopt healthier lifestyles in Richmond upon Thames.

“Previously the course has just been aimed at men and it’s great news that women can now join too. I hope to see lots of residents taking part and living healthier, happier lives!”
