LOCAL MP RAISES UDNEY PARK PLAYING FIELDS IN PARLIAMENT

Udney Park Fields gone to ‘wrack and ruin’ says MP

LOCAL MP Munira Wilson has raised the uncertain future of Teddington’s Udney Park play fields in Parliament.

The site is back on the market after the new owners Leisure Focus decided their development plans were not financially viable after paying £3.1m for the site which includes a pavilion and war memorial.

The Lib Dem MP said: “With Udney Park playing fields back on the market I’m supporting a community bid to bring the fields and war memorial pavilion into community use for grassroots sports – there is a huge local need for space.”

She said the site had ‘gone to wrack and ruin’ after two badly advised developers bought the site. She asked that The Minister looked favourably upon any application from the Udney Park Playing Fields Foundation for an ‘asset of community value.’

She said the Community Ownership Fund was ‘ideal’ to support the Foundation.

The MP said the Foundation had worked ‘tirelessly’ with the community in Teddington and Twickenham to restore the playing fields to community use.

The relevant Minister agreed to discuss the ‘compelling case’ with the campaigning MP.
