Three ambulances have arrived in Ukraine as part of the latest mercy mission from the Teddington-based Mighty Convoy to provide much-needed emergency supplies to the frontline.

The latest consignment included a wide range of medical kit, blood transfusion monitors, scanner and monitors.

The six-man team got caught up in the ongoing emergency when an air raid siren went off at 2am and shelter had to be taken in the underground of the hotel in Lviv.

The local media company Haymarket, based in Twickenham funded one of the ambulances and provided two of the drivers for the 1200 mile journey.

Might Convoy, a not for profit company has joined forces with the Christian Medical Association Ukraine (CMAU) for its four previous trips to ensure safe passage to the borders of the war-torn country.

The refurbished ambulances cost between £6000 and £8000 each and are donated in areas where their usefulness is most needed across the country. The team is due to fly back today.

Organiser, Simon Brake, who lives in Teddington, said: “This is our fifth convoy and thanks to the fantastic support of donors and individual companies, we hope to continue providing humanitarian aid, food and medical supplies to the soldiers on the frontline and the long-suffering civilians of Ukraine.

“We have now delivered seventeen ambulances thanks to some great support but we really need more donations and help to be able to carry on as they desperately need our support.”
