CAMPAIGN TO REBUILD HAMPTON WICK ROYAL CRICKET PAVILION
Statement from Hampton Wick Royal CC:
“September 7 will be forever remembered for Hampton Wick Royal Cricket Club because it’ the day our pavilion was destroyed in a fire.”
The fund-raising campaign to rebuild the Hampton Wick Royal cricket pavilion has got off to a flying start with nearly £16.000 raised towards a short-term target of £20.000 with a total of 325 supporters making donations.
In a statement on their Justgiving fund-raising site the Club said: “Overnight on 6 September, there was a catastrophic fire in the HWRCC pavilion.
“This season has been a celebration of our 160 years as a cricket club. And it ended in tragedy.
“We are utterly devastated. A short period of time will be spent coming to terms with this awful news before we start to rebuild again.
“Wick members Ian Collier, Jack LeFeuvre and Jacob Povah will be sticking on their running shoes for events coming up.
“And there will be many more fundraising to come in the months and years ahead. Any help will be received with great love and appreciation.”
Members and supporters held their own vigil in front of the Club.
A spokesperson said: “We met last night at the ground, had a cry, a reminisce and a laugh. We are doubly determined to come back stronger. And THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT! It’s been truly humbling!
