TED LASSO – THE BARBIE DOLL!
The award-winning Apple+ TV series TED LASSO which was filmed locally in Richmond and Twickenham has extended its range of merchandise to include ……. a Barbie-type doll just in time for Xmas.
Ted, played by US actor Jason Sudeikis, is one of three Lasso central characters who have been ‘Barbi-fied’ by the US-based Barbie doll manufacturer Mattel.
The other two are Rebecca Welton, the football club owner, played by UK actress Hannah Waddingham and PR consultant Keeley Jones played by actress Juno Temple.
The dolls cost £51 each and the Ted doll is marked as being Sold Out on the website.
The Ted doll has already attracted criticism because the doll version is wearing black trainers and in the show, he is famous for his colourful selection of footwear.
Other eagle-eyed fans have said Hannah’s character doll is too short because in the series, the actress, who presents a Christmas TV special in the UK next month, towers over Ted Lasso.
Other Ted Lasso fans have expressed surprise and disappointment that, as yet, there is no doll version of tough guy Roy Kent, who’s played by Brett Goldstein.
The last series – the third – was screened in March this year amidst uncertainty about its future but has already been nominated for numerous Emmy awards, which have been delayed because of the Hollywood writer’s strike.
Packaging designer Charis Ceniseoz says, “Ted’s face is just so perfectly captured in this doll! His eyes have that believable sparkle, and that mustachioed smirk completes it perfectly.”
